02. Requirements
Objectives
Sustainable Impact
This solar PV installation is expected to generate 1.6 million kWh of clean energy annually, significantly reducing the college’s reliance on non-renewable sources. The project directly supports Conestoga’s mission to achieve net-zero energy efficiency and showcases best practices in campus sustainability.
From initial planning through installation, sustainability was central to the project. The system:
- Lowers greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
- Reduces long-term energy costs
- Serves as a hands-on teaching tool for engineering and technology students
- Provides a platform to collaborate with green-tech companies
Living Lab & Agrivoltaics
In a unique agrivoltaic twist, Conestoga’s solar site also supports “sheep-scaping”—grazing sheep maintain the vegetation beneath the solar arrays, demonstrating smart land use and biodiversity benefits. This real-world application serves as an educational resource and models practical sustainability.

03. HOW WE DID IT
Solution
This project showcases innovative engineering with Polar Racking Inc.’s 1P Sol-X Single Axis Tracker system, paired with ground screws for a robust foundation.
These measures were specifically designed to address glacial till conditions observed during pull testing, ensuring long-term reliability and efficiency.

04. RESULTS
The Outcome
This project represents more than just a solar installation—it’s a step toward a carbon-neutral campus, a learning opportunity for students, and a showcase of innovative green technologies. Conestoga College and Polar Racking are proud to lead the way in sustainable energy solutions.
