01. Overview

Project Summary

The project produces enough power annually to power over 9,500 homes and offset 37,000 tonnes of carbon.

The Deerfoot solar project covers 99 hectares of former limited-use industrial land in Southeast Calgary, Alberta, and consists of 101,250 solar panels with a generating capacity of 55 MW DC (37 MW AC).

Polar Racking Installs Largest Urban Solar Project in Western Canada.

Polar Racking is proud to have supplied Both Deerfoot and Barlow projects. These two brownfield sites (93 MW DC) in the centre of Calgary withour Ballasted ground mount racking solution. 160 hectares of former limited-use industrial land now generating 93 MW DC in Calgary.

02. Requirements

Objectives

The Deerfoot solar project is one of the largest urban solar projects in Western Canada, covering 99 hectares of land. The project, located near 114 Avenue and 52 Street in Southeast Calgary, Alberta, repurposes former limited-use industrial land and has a generating capacity of 37 MW of energy or 71.87 GWh/year over the next 30 years.

The project consists of 101,250 bi-facial VSUN 540 watt photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, mounted on a fixed-tilt racking system, supplied by Polar Racking, along with ballasted
concrete foundations to accommodate site conditions.
In addition to solar panels and racking systems, the facility contains Sungrow SG3600UD-

MV inverters, internal roads, weather station equipment, an electrical collector system, and transformers.

03. HOW WE DID IT

Solution

The Deerfoot solar project exhibits the transition to sustainable energy for the people of Calgary and provides customers with sustainable energy alternatives. The project produces enough power annually to power over 9,500 homes and offset 37,000 tonnes of carbon.
