Detailed Project Summary
Polar Racking has been selected by BMR Energy (Virgin Group) as its foundation and mechanic supplier and installer to re-build the Donoe Solar Farm in St. Thomas, USVI. The original solar facility came online in 2015 with 4.2 MW of capacity. Much of the facility was then destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017, a season that was particularly devastating for the USVI’s distribution and transmission systems with over 80% damaged or destroyed.
Polar Racking was eager to understand the failures of the prior design and engineered their solution with the support of PRI Engineering to handle the environmental challenges posed by heavy wind loads, high slopes, and variable ground conditions. The result is a resilient racking and module attachment system that offers superior performance in locations with heavy environmental loads.
